Should a professional photographer choose a PowerShot?

I was looking at the SD 600.

No, a Canon PowerShot is not a professional camera. It is much better to have an slr that has far greater control over focus, aperture and other settings. Slr's also have a wide variety available lenses suitable for different projects. The Canon Rebel is a good for entry level professional use.

Your camera doesn't matter. Cameras don't take photos themselves. Shoot with anything you have. What matters is the one behind the camera.
