The CPU of Dell Inspiron 1720 may be Intel Core2 Duo(Merom) T7500(2.2G), and the physic memory may be 2G DDR2 667. Based on these hardwares, it is totally applicable and available to install Windows 2000 professional systems. Actually there are not many limitations on the install of Windows 2000 systems. Your laptop can even fit Win7 system also.

You can if you have enough hard drive space; however, since it has a 64bit processor try running Windows 7 as it is more compatible to today's applications.

Sure you can. Windows 2000 should run on most PC hardware. However, you might run into troubles if you don't have device drivers for particular hardware components of the Dell.

Technically there is no reason why you can not. But keep in mind, that Windows 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft, so some of your notebook hardware may not work.

It only support the pre-installed operating system. Another issue would the hardware drivers. You can use the Win XP drivers from Dell support site but there might be incompatibility issues for some devices.

No, you can not install windows 2000 because like the previous versions of intel pentium4 like intel dual core, core 2duo, dual core inside etc. you can install only vista and later versions.

I think its not possible. Since its difficult to find the driver files of your laptop, for windows 2000. Also you will need a third party disk formatting tool to erase your current operating system. If these tasks can be done then you can replace your current operating system with windows 2000
