Clonidine (brand name Catapres) is prescribed for hypertension. It works in the brain to reduce heart rate and blood pressure. It can be used in conjunction with another anti-hypertensive medication such as a beta blocker, under a doctor's careful guidance. Side effects include dry mouth and eyes as well as fatigue.
