There could be many reasons for this. Most common are faulty data cable connection (especially on external drives), faulty power connection or a problem in the drive itself.

Your hard drive keeps on dissapearing maybe because of some factors like the cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard. The cables connecting your hard drive to the main board is possibly loose. There can also be a problem on the operating system. Try running your computer in safe mode and check if the hard drive is still missing.

Your hard drive isn't disappearing from your desktop, you probably are erasing the my Computer icon every day, but that's not your hard drive.

The disc drive may be corrupt or have a bad sector on it that when it accesses it drops from your desktop. Run a disc management utility like disc doctor.

if you use microsoft windows then the hard drive icon you are missing is an shortcut and regularly the operative system deletes unused shortcuts from the desktop for free space.

More information would be required to troubleshoot correctly, such as operating system and type of drive. However, regardless of the aforementioned, there are two likely causes. First, Shut down the device and check that all the cabling is secure to the hard drive. Second, the drive may be failing. It would be suggested to run a diagnostic program.

Your hard drive isn't disappearing, you probably moved the shortcut into the recycle bin, or Windows detects that the shortcut hasn't been used and deletes it periodically.
