Question by  freezing (16)

Why does my dog bite his hair off until it bleeds?

This is horrible, and I don't know why he does it or how to stop it.

Normally this is caused either by fleas or dry skin conditions. If it is in one specific region, it is most likely dry skin. Otherwise, it may be fleas.

Your dog is suffering from allergies. Bring the dog to the vet. The vet will give your dog a steroid. The steroid will stop the dogs urges.

This can happen due to dry skin, or a rash. Your veterinarian can prescribe medication to help with the dryness, which you'll typically mix in with food or a treat.

If your dog is continuously chewing at himself, you need to investigate the problem. It is possible he has fleas, hot spots, or an allergy to something.

I had a dog with a similar habit, and it turned out that he had an allergy to fleas. Therefore, it may be that your dog is allergic to something. I never did get my dog to stop completely. You should take him to your vet and find out if he has allergies. Outside of that, use a cone.
