A basic rule is for images that fill the slide, the image size should be equal to the video screen's resolution. Most resolutions are set at 1024 x 768. If you have very detailed images, they sometimes look better at a higher resolution. You may want to try the same image at different several resolutions.

You want the images to be as high resolution as possible. At least 3-5 mega-pixels is recommended to have a clear, sharp image. You also want the displayed large enough for everyone in the group to see.

Depends on the resolution you're outputting to, and the original resolution of the image. If the original is lo-res, cranking up the resolution isn't going to make it look better.

Always is 1024 x 768, because is the standard resolution for windows, linux and mac computers. The best format to save the image is png.
