If the child's father is alive, you will need him to terminate his parental rights in order for you to begin adoption proceedings. Once that is resolved, you can meet with an attorney to draw up and file the necessary papers. The process itself is fairly simple and straightforward.

Unless the other parent has lost or relinquished parental rights, MN law is very strict that you must obtain their consent, the court can guide you in this. If the child is over 14, their consent is legally necessary, under Minnesota law. Be aware that the other parent has 10 days within which to withdraw consent. The rest is paperwork.
