Take him or her to a vet that specialises in exotics (rodents, etc). Hair loss may be a sign of aging or could be caused by mites/lice. It may also be a hormonal, fungal or immune system issue. The only way to know for sure is to have your pet examined by a qualified professional who can prescribe appropriate treatment.

There are several reasons why rats lose their hair. It could be its diet is too high in protein. It could be mites. It is best to take your rat to the vet and get the proper diagnosis. If a male and female are together the male might be barbering the female.

It might have mites or lice. If so the rat will scratch themself due to itching till they get scabs. Liquid sheep Ivomectin/Ivermectin may be helpful. But what ever be the cause you should seek for the assistance of a vet who will correctly diagnose the symptoms and prescribe the proper medicines.

You should get him to the vet, or atleast call for some advice if you cant afford an office visit. Normally an animal loses its hair if its sick, stressed, malnourished, or is having some sort of reaction to its food. If he hasnt been under stress, or a change in his diet you should get him to the vet
