An Elizabethan collar is used on dogs after they have had a surgery to prevent them from licking or chewing on the area where the sutures are. It is also used in other cases such as severe mange or skin diseases to keep the dog from scratching and irritating the area.

An Elizabethan dog collar keeps the dog from licking or chewing at areas on their own bodies. This is useful after the dog has had surgery or an injury. A dog tends to lick hurt spots and can interfere with healing or with medication needing to be kept on the injury.

An Elizabethan collar is one of those cone shaped devices that go over a dog's head. You usually use a collar to keep it in place. They look a lot like a lamp shade. They prevent dogs from harming themselves such as chewing on wounds, licking areas excessively, disturbing surgical sites, or from scratching their ears or face.

Elizabethan collar or e-collar is a piece of material (generally plastic) that fit around the dog's collar and form a cone-shaped obstacle around the dog's head. This will prevent the dog from chewing or licking a surgery site, wound or bandage to prevent infection. The e-collar allows the dog to drink and eat normally if the right size is used.
