Main memory, or RAM, is the main storage space that your computer uses to quickly obtain information from other processes. As soon as you open a program, it goes from your hard drive to your RAM chip installed on your computer for easy access.

"Main memory" is not a term commonly used in the computer industry. A computer has two types of memory in it - the hard drive (what I assume you're referring to) is where data is stored, like programs of files you save. RAM is a special type of memory that the computer uses, but isn't user accessible.
