What is an air conditioner "recharge"?

Recharging an air conditioner is the process by witch additional refrigerant liquid is added to the existing refrigerant already in the line. This is done to ensure optimal pressure and increased cooling effectiveness and efficiency.

If you're talking about your home unit or car, I would guess, the unit has no refrigerant in it and service people need to 'recharge' the refrigerant in the system.

An air conditioning recharge occurs when an AC unit is low on freon, the cooling chemical used. When it is low, one must replace the freon with new.
