Butter has been used to "cure" first-degree burns and to light lamps or funeral pyres instead of oil. For the most part, butter has been used as part of the human diet. It was once deemed to be a peasant food, but is now a staple in many societies.

It has been used as a treatment for burns, a skin lotion for dry skin, to help make hair glossy, as food, as diaper rash ointment, to shine leather, as a sexual lubricant, as a lubricant on a shovel to help it get into the snow better, for dry nails, as squeaky door nail fix.

The movie "Last Tango in Paris" found some unexpected uses for butter. But mostly it is still used in cooking. In the old days, people put butter on burns, but that has been found to be a bad idea because it increases the risk of infection. Personally, I still think the best use for butter is on popcorn.

Butter has been used in many ways over the years. During 50's it was used as a seasoning to nearly all foods - it's a wonder that everyone was so thin. It has also been used on burns and to get off tight rings.
