Melt 1 lb unsalted butter over low heat until liquid seperates to top - continue until solids at bottom turn light brown & top turns golden. Remove from heat immediately

Heat butter until it has separated into a clear layer on top and a cloudy layer. Pour off the clear layer - this is ghee or clarified buter.

In a small saucepan, melt the desired amount of butter, plus one tablespoon. Do not let the butter brown. Pour into a small measuring cup and let cool. Skim the cloudy milk fat off of the top, and the remaining liquid will be clarified butter.

You make it by boiling unsalted butter. Boil until there is no water left. The milk solids will be on the bottom, the rest of the gunk on top. Remove the gunk and the milk solids are your ghee butter.

Clarified or ghee butter is made by melting the butter and then skimming off the opaque foamy top layer. The clear portion that is left is clarified butter. Solidified, it is known as ghee.

Melt regular butter down and when it separates, take the top clear part off and that is the clarified butter part.

Start with unsalted butter, a lot of it. Place in a crock pot or other gentle heat. Leave the melted butter overnight, unstirred. Cool completely, the middle layer is ghee.
