"Lebensraum" means "living space" or "habitat. " Hitler claimed the Germans needed more Lebensraum to survive so he invaded Slavic Eastern Europe to acquire their space and resources.

The literal tranlsation of "lebensraum" is "room for living". This term was used during the Nazi regime to justify the policy of taking over other countries and the execution of Jews and other minorities with the argument that "Aryans" needed more space to live. Because of its Nazi past the term is not commonly used in Germany.
