The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of roughly 900 documents that are the oldest surviving records of Biblical relevance. They also contain some writing just pertaining to the time.
The scrolls, discovered at Qumran give a deep insight into the rules by which the people here, the Essenes, lived, copying some of their earliest notions of the Hebrew Bible.
