Japanese Spaniels need to be socialized to very young children, but are very loving, playful and devoted to their family. They're good with other pets. They love to play and bond devotedly to children, love to cuddle. They don't care for strangers, and protect their own. Not yappy, train well.

Chin's are generally very mild-mannered, intelligent, and loving. They can be awfully playful as well. However, they're a sensitive breed that would be better suited to a household of older children.
