The ELISA test has an accuracy of about 99. 5%. If this test is positive, retesting twice is recommended. If either of the retests are positive, another test (Western Blot or IFA) is performed. The combined accuracy of these tests, according to the CDC, is greater than 99%.

Yes and no. Modern HIV tests done in clinics or hospital labs have accuracy rates well over 97%. However, there is the possibility of getting false positives or false negatives.
