HIV testing at 8 weeks is conclusive, correct?

It's approximately 99 percent conclusive, but the experts generally allow for a six-month window of time for an HIV test to be conclusive. Most people show antibodies within 30 days of infection, but it's better to play it safe.

Not always. You can be tested for AIDS/HIV and be positive but still come up negative. It can remain "dormant" if you will, for years. Your best bet is to get tested regularly, for all std's including AIDS/HIV as well as going to your primary care doctor to get regular blood tests.

HIV testing involves detecting antibodies that the body produces in response to the appearance of the virus. Many people develop enough of these antibodies to be detected within about 3 weeks. However, it can take 8 weeks to build up detectable levels. Some people take 3 months to build detectable levels. In rare cases, it can take 6 months.

It's encouraging, but NOT conclusive. Get another test at 3 months to be sure, and then six. The CDC claims the window period is up to six months after your last exposure, and although a lot of doctors see this as conservative, it's still better to play it safe.

Most people will test conclusively within 30 days from a standard blood test. At 3 months, 99% will test conclusively. 6 months is conclusive for almost everyone.
