If you take a picture of a ruler will the numbers show up?

Well this depends on the depth you use in your pictures. If you have a close up with a high DPI then you should be able to see the numbers with no problem.

It would definitely depend on the camera and the zoom level. Taking the picture of a ruler from afar would produce hardly any readable numbers, but using a zoom would give you better clarity. Of course, taking the shot excessively close will produce fuzzy numbers, too.
