If you get surgery, can you request that someone be in the room to make sure that the surgeons do it right?

I don't trust doctors.

Several years ago I could not get permission to put a "wash your hands sign", let alone for someone to scrub in for the surgery, or watch via overhead viewing.

What you are asking is not really workable, you would need another doctor to even understand what is going on. There will be at least 6 other people in the room watching the operation. I would advise you to forego the surgeon until you can trust your surgeon

No surgeon would ever agree to this; no layperson would understand what was happening, and having someone in the way would increase the risk of something going wrong.
