Teeth occasionally come in too close to each other and need to be gently moved to allow space. A dentist places spacers to 'spread' the teeth apart.

I had to have spacers put in while under the care of an orthodontist. The spacers resembled thick, small rubber bands that they forced between my teeth. They stayed in place a couple of weeks to make room for the metal bands to fit around the back two teeth. Be sure to have the Tylenol handy!

Tooth spacers work by slowly seperating teeth untill they are far apart for the dentist to fit a bracket for braces.

Tooth spacers are used to create a space between two teeth in order to put a tooth brace on. Tooth spacers, similiar to small rubber bands, usually remain on for about 1 to 2 weeks then removed to put on dental appliance.
