You'll want to spend time talking to your bird and being near it. Once he feels comfortable with you can attempt to enter his cage. If he's scared don't make sudden movements but continue to be reassuring. Rub their heads to congratulate them for a job well done. Be patient and repetative.

Reward good behavior and punish bad behavior. Covering the cage with a blanket can serve as a punishment, as the cockatiel will not be able to see and interact with its surroundings.

The best way to tame them is by getting a very young chick and hand feeding him. This can be done from the moment he was born to two weeks.

First you should just approach the cage every so often and talk to the bird so it will get used to you. Then start giving it seeds by hand.

If you get the bids wings clipped it will be more dependent of you. Alos durring training it is less likley to fly away from you. Sit next to your bird in the cage. Make him relaxed when your around. This will make handeling much more easy.
