Will my auto insurance claim be covered by an "act of god"?

Insurance policies rarely use language like 'act of god,' or 'full coverage' anymore. To the point, if you carry comprehensive coverage, you are more than likely covered for most natural disaster-type claims, such as flood, wind, hail, or collapse. As with any coverage, it is subject to deductible and only perils are covered that are not specifically excluded.

It depends entirely on the individual circumstance and the fine print of your contract. You lose nothing by calling and asking. It's either that or get intimate with your policy booklet.

If you have damage to your car caused by "an act of God" (a fallen tree limb, etc), it will be covered if you have comprehensive coverage on your policy.

If you carry comprehensive or 'other than collision' coverage, you will be covered for an act of god. This includes things, but not limited to, flood, hail, wind, or the like.

Anything that is covered will be plainly expressed in your policy's declarations and exclusions, and there are some exceptions that are understood. You will need to check with your insurance company to find out which things are and are not covered because understood items vary from one company to another.

The only acts of God that could be covered are damage from being struck by lightening or a meteor. Flood is not covered under "acts of god".
