Throat swelling can be due to irritation from scratched tissue or a reaction to do an unknown allergy. Because the throat surrounds your airway, watch this symptom closely and see a doctor if there is any difficulty breathing. Aim for cool liquids and soft food to see if it subsides.

If it's swelling around the lymph nodes, it could be a sore throat, strep, or mono. It depends if you're having other symptoms. It could also be an allergic reaction to something. If it continues to swell, make sure you get to a doctor and drink plenty of cold water.

You could have strep throat. Maybe it is inflamed because of seasonally allergies or tonsilitis. To get a definite answer for something of this nature you should see a doctor.

You could have pharyngitis, or an inflammation of the pharynx. This is commonly caused by a virus or bacteria, and sometimes happens during bad sore throats.
