Why was Diogenes using a lantern?

Was he only searching for honest people at night?

Diogenes carried his lantern to search for truth. He was a firm believer in debunking myths and ridiculous claims to stop people who intended to defraud. His lantern wasn't always carried at night because it was a symbol for his core values which stated that you can find lies and dishonesty anywhere and at any time.

Yes. But while searching for those one night, he encountered a certain Luxuria, who was gay and who asked him over. Diogenes pretended he was also gay, and said very phylosophically that he was looking for the man.
