Catholics wear wedding veils in church as a sign of respect to God. It is akin to how Jewish men wear the yamaka. It promotes traditionalist values and pleases God. The proper term that is used by Catholics is 'Mantilla Veil' and it is used in the Traditional Catholic Church.

In the old days, veils were worn as a protection against evil spirits that might hurt the bride. The veil was supposed to confuse them. Nowadays, the best reason to wear a veil is for tradition, and because they look pretty. It is also exciting when the veil is brushed aside for the first kiss!
