Why is the leaning tower of Pisa leaning?

Can it be fixed?

It leans because when it was orginally constructed, it was on two small footings that sat on unstable ground. They fixed the tower so that it will not fall now, but do not want to put it straight again, as it is a great attraction to this day.

its leaning because of where it was built on soft clay area. theyve remedied it by placing lead counter-weights on the far side of it so that the stress doesnt cause it to sink further.
