Why is my fig tree losing its leaves and dropping unripened figs?

Fig trees usually lose their leaves during the winter. My guess is that you might have experienced a cold snap recently which has caused the leaves and fruit to drop prematurely. If not its probably a lack of fertilizer, a potassium rich diet will help. A fertilizer like 5-5-15.

There is an excellent product called BarkBrite which is environmentally friendly and comes in a range of colours. It needs to be mixed with water then sprayed onto the mulch. It will dye any natural material and should last very well.

Figs drop their leaves in winter. If it's very dry they will also drop their leaves during drought. If it isn't due to seasons changing (winter) then try fertilizing with Osmocote or Dynamite and water in deeply. Add mulch such as pine bark nuggets or pine straw. Water 2x weekly.

Several possible reasons: 1) If a young tree, roots not established. 2) Be sure soil has good drainage or roots rot. 3) Soil may be too acidic, add lime.
