Your cat gets colds too. You should probably take your cat to the vet and if it's nothing serious then the vet will give you a medication that will help relieve your cats congestion. The coughing may be more of a congestion mixed with hairball type of thing. If your cat is playful then things should be okay.

Your cat could have a hairball suck in it's throat. The more common problem could be that it has a upper respiratory infection. You should take your cat to your veterinarian, where he or she can provide you with some antibiotics to give to your cat. It will take a couple days before your cat is feeling better.

Coughing along with wheezing may be due to inflammation of lungs. They also resemble the symptoms of asthma. With the help of chest X-rays, ECG and ultrasound scan, your vet will do the needful. Always avoid self-medication of your pet, as there are different causes for different types of cough.

This could be the classic case of your cat having a fur ball stuck in its throat. The best thing you can do is to take it to a vet.

My mothers cat started doing that when we would let it outside. We took him to the vet and he diagnosed him with an allergy to the dust outside (we had just moved to a new state). We simply limited his time outside, it seemed to help him get better.
