Why is my car making a humming sound when I press on the gas pedal?

My car is making a humming/whining sound when the gas is pressed. The sound gets worse when the air conditioning is turned on. Whats wrong with my car?

Depending on what kind of car you have, it sounds like you have an old belt. I would replace the belt that turns the a/c compressor to start with.

Your car is straining to move the different parts that are driven by your engine. If your air is on, that is one more think it has to drive.

It sounds like a drive belt in your engine needs to be replaced. When a drive belt wears out, it looses its "grip" and begins to slip on the pulleys it is running. Replacing the belt with a new one should fix the "humming" issue you are having with your vehicle.

Ok, first things first. Check all your belts. If they are worn, replace them. If they are still good then check your tires. You just might have a radial going bad which the next thing to happen after a tire belt brakes, you blow the tire. So do those things and see if they are your problems first.

Perhaps your car is simply lazy and does not like to be worked. That, or the alternator is not functioning properly.
