There are many different dvd formats and your burner probably is not compatible with the blank dvd you are using. Check the specs of your drive and match them with the blanks and it should work. Examples of formats are DVD-R+, DVD-R-, DVD-RW+, DVD-RW- etc. check for them next time you buy dvds.

There are two reasons. The first reason is that you might be using a DVD that is not compatible with your burner. The second reason is that there may be a problem with the DVD like scratches or dirt on the DVD.

Most often this happens with cheap blank dvds - it's worth trying another disk or a higher quality brand. Some burners also only support dvd-r or dvd+r dvds.
