Why does mail take so long to get delivered to Florida?

It really has more to do with where you are mailing from. That letter or package has to go to a mail center when it leaves your hand. And if that center doesn't deal with say, Florida, it then goes from there to another. Also the size of the city you are mailing to affects the time: smaller, longer.

It all depends on where the mail is being shipped from.If it's coming from california, for example, it can take up to ten business days if being sent from usps.

The U.S. mail system works on zones. There are 5 or so zones throughout the U.S. The further away the zone is, the longer it takes to get there. If you mail something from zone 1 to zone one, it arrives in 1 to 2 days. But zone 5 to zone 1 will take a lot longer.

This depends. It sounds like Media Mail is your method of choice, which takes several weeks by default. Since USPS has become privatized, a lot about the system has changed. You'll need to pay if you feel the need for guaranteed speed.
