Why do you gain weight when you eat less?

That always seems to be the case with me.

If you are doing "starvation" dieting where you drastically reduce calorie intake, your body responds by slowing down your metabolism to save calories-a survival response. To avoid this problem, eat at least 1200 calories daily and divide them up into many small meals. This will help keep your metabolism up.

If you eat too little your body isn't getting enough nutrients and it goes into a mode where it thinks it's starving. Your body holds onto every ounce of fat.

You need to eat a sufficient number of calories to keep your body from going into starvation mode (which will cause it to store all intake as fat).
