Why do Snow Patrol lyrics make as much sense as a drunk donkey speaking in tongues?

It seems to me that Snow Patrol is simply trying to create associations between the music and the lyrics in order to have the listener feel a certain way.

Some bands decide to write in a very abstract or symbolic manner. Sometimes they do this for shock value or to make people think deeply about what they have to say in their songs. It may help a band get attention - the key to making money. Perhaps this is why Snow Patrol write in such a way.
