I would hope that most people who point out grammatical errors are well meaning. I am a teacher so I have a natural tendency to point out when people make errors, not out of malice but because I want them to learn.

People often point out grammatical errors to exhibit superior intellectual ability. In reality, pointing these errors out is bad manners and unecessary when the meaning of what is being communicated is clear. There are those, who on the other hand, point out errors as a way to instruct and teach.
