If you have a device which supports high speed data transfer and your USB hub supports only lower speeds then there may be some problem in synchronizing your data. It may lead to some data loss.

If you are using machinery that requires a high bandwidth for transfer to your PC (say a video camera or External Hard-Drive) then using a HUB controller could mean the difference between waiting 30 seconds to transfer a file and 5 minutes. Inevitably though it depends on what project you're attempting to do.

All newer USB devices require the USB 2. 0 standard because of its speed and versatility. A hub controller acts as a switching device connecting together many perpherals at once such as printers and external drives.
