When we eat or drink, we swallow some air along with the food which creates pressure inside the stomach. It compels us to belch in order to release this gas.

Several things could be causing your problem. First of all, you could have gastric reflux disease, which is a minor condition, but should be treated with medication before it evolves into something worse. Another cause could be a muscle spasm. This too is treatable, but should not be ignored. Make a doctor's appointment!

Esophageal reflux is a very likely cause. Reflux itself isn't dangerous but can be a precursor to esophageal cancer. If you experience heart burn, it is time to see a doctor and get on a program to help.

You are inhaling extra air in some way and that is the reason for the burping. That or you are drinking too much carbonated beverage.

Do you drink a lot of carbonated beverages? If so that can be a cause, or if you eat too fast it can be a way of gaining oxygen.
