Once you have eaten, your body is busy working on digestion and is draining energy from other parts of your body to deal with that, hence the sleepiness.

It's pretty common to be tired after eating a meal. Actually doing it could cause unwanted heartburn, though. So you might want to delay your siestas.

You probably ate a large, high calorie meal, and all the blood is rushing to your stomach to aid in digestion. This is natural. To feel more energy, change your diet. Eat several smaller, lower calorie meals. Eat more fresh green leafy vegetables and less high sodium, high sugar processed food.

A daily exercise routine of 20-30 min. will lessen the urge to sleep after eating.

Certain things in food can react with you and make you tired, such as turkey. Also when you have a full stomach it tells your body that you are full and should not exert itself, therefore you become tired.
