Because, the creators must be honest :P. Well, you are totally right about that, maybe they hired wrong people to this job. They must contain something says they are digestive in the name of brand, maybe that is because they have such unappetizing names. Hope this helped Robert J. Fred

Maybe in part because it's a rather unappetizing problem (literally as well as metaphorically). And I would guess that the target demographic is older adults and seniors, who were raised with this type of simplified, cod-liver-oil advertising. Nostalgic marketing for older adults can convey feelings of safety, familiarity, and confidence. Hence -- purchase!

According to manufacturer McVitie's, Digestive biscuits were originally so called because the high proportion of baking soda in the recipe was supposed to aid digestion (baking soda, also called bicarbonate of soda, has antacid properties). So the name was certainly not considered unappetizing when first invented, but intended to promote the benefits of eating them.

When Digestive Biscuits first came into the the British market, it wasn't considered bad. It was in reference to digestive health, which was considered a good marketing trait at the time. The reason they are called that is due to their high fiber content, which helps digestion (ending constipation).

Because, unfortunately, the Latin derivatives that we now use in American English do not sound very appetizing and are not marketable. Thankfully, there are ad execs who will give digestive biscuits new names or "brands. " They will also put a cute picture of a baby on the front, or a very appetizing picture of a lovely biscuit.
