Why did Motown move to LA?

The economy in Detroit was faltering and Berry Gordy wanted some of his talents to get involved with the movie business (Diana Ross did two movies during the early seventies).

With the other business ventures that owner Berry Gordy was following, the main one being the television market. With these new ventures Motown became more spread out to the point in the late sixties where all operations were moved from Detroit Michigan to Los Angeles with many of their popular artists leaving them at the same time of their move.

Motown moved to Los Angeles to extend their company into the motion picture industry. Their first two films were Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany.
