Australia got involved in World War 1 because it was a member of the British Empire. The British Empire was run by Great Britain, who signed a treaty to help France and Russia if these countries went to war. When Britain lived up to their obligation, Australia was sucked into the conflict sending troops into battle.

Australia became involved in World War 1 because of their relationship to Great Britain. Australia was a Commonwealth of Great Britain and owed allegiance to the King of England. It must be understood also that Australia had a very large number of formerly British in its population and thus felt close to Britian.

Australia was involved in World War 1 because they wanted to show their loyalty to Britain and create a strong bond between them so Britain could protect Australia by their Naval forces against 'Asian Countries' that wanted to take over Australia at the time.
