Orginally starting out as The Quarrymen then later The Beatles, the original members were John on rythem guitar, George on lead guitar, Paul on second rythem and piano, Pete Best (drums) and Stuart Sutcliffe (bass). Sutcliffe left the group in 1961 leaving Paul on Bass. Best left a year later and was replaced by Ringo.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison played in the group The Quarrymen between 1957-1960. In 1960, Stuart Sutcliffe joined them on bass, and they changed their name to "The Beatles" as a tribute to Buddy Holly. They were joined by drummer Pete Best in August of 1960. Sutcliffe left in 1961. In 1962, Best was replaced by Ringo Starr.
