she was a women who was dignosed with breast cancer when she was 33 years old and died three years later. Her sisters believed that if more information was available that less people would also die and started the charity in her memory in order to help find a cure and to raise awareness.

Susan B. Komen is the namesake of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, founded in Komen's memory in 1982 by Komen's sister. Komen died of breast cancer in 1980.
