You can't go wrong with Wilson or Rawlings. If your kid is going to catch than he needs to worry more about technique and connection with the pitcher rather than the glove. If you have the money try for a nike.

Nike makes a quality catcher's mitt that is easy to break in for a kid and fits the hand well

Any of the big names of glove manufacturers make such a glove, but I personally would recommend either Rawlings or Wilson.

The Wilson A2000 M1BG 33 1/2" Baseball Catchers Mitt Wilson A Series Gloves would be a great choice for a future hall of famer!

Rawlings made the "dual hinge" glove popular. The top of the line Rawlings models are the "Heart of the Hide" models and then their "Gold Glove Series". The Wilson A2403 is probably the best of all catcher's glove, often used by Major League pleyers. Consider buying on ebay for a glove that is already broken-in.

Wilson makes the best youth gloves for the price. Go to a large selection like Dick's Sporting Good and let him/her try on and find the most comfortable.
