Chester Barnand was an American business executive, Harvard student (who was denied his BA due to technicalities), public administrator and author of management and organizational studies. His landmark book, Functions of the Executive (1938), he discusses the functions of executives in organizations which include: establishing/maintaining a system of communication, securing services from other members and formulating organizational purposes and objectives.

Chester Barnard, (1886 - 1961) an American executive, wrote a management theory book, "Functions of the Executives". He was president of both the Rockefeller Foundation and New Jersey Bell Telephone.
