Adolphe Quetelet was a social statistician. He taught mathematics and founded and directed the Royal Observatory. He also studied astronomy and probability and became interested in statistics and sociology. He called his new area of science social mechanics.
Born in Belgium in 1796, Adolphe Quetelet was a mathematician, statistician, sociologist and astrologer. The reason he is famous is because he helped to introduce statistical methods into the social sciences.
