The assets of the deceased are used to satisfy obligations. Creditors file with the court while the estate is being probate. The executor makes sure those obligations are satisfied before heirs. If there are no assets, the debts are written off.

The bills will be taken out of the persons estate. i.e the sale of their home and car, or money from their bank account. The credit cards, auto loans etc come before any money that might have been bequeathed to you. Check with each credit card about a life insurance policy on her/him.

I would think that job would go to whoever was the next of kin. You will have to find out who the next of kin is and that can easily be found out. All you have to do is call the credit companies to find out who it is. I am sure they will be more than willing to help.

It all depends on the liability on the card. If the deceased was the only person on the card then no one else will be liable. All the executor has to do is to mail a copy of the death cetificate. However if there was a joint user then the liability passes to that person and they would be liable.

Once a person is dead so is the line of credit. You will have to call the companies and tell them they died so they will stop sending bills and calling. Any name that is on the account with the deceased person will be responsible for paying the bill off.
