Rastafari originated in Jamaica in the 1930s as a way of life and worship of former King of Ethiopia (Hailee Selasee) as God reincarnate.

Rastafarianism arose in Jamaica in the 1930s. Rastafarians worship the Emperor Haile Selassie (who was called Ras Tafari before assuming the throne) as an incarnation of Jah, or God.

The Rastafarian religion originally arose on the island nation of Jamaica during the 1930's in worship of Haile Selassie I who they believed was a reincarnation of Jesus Christ. One of the first missionaries of Rastafarian religion is King of Kings Ethiopian Mission, founded by Archibald Dunkley in December of 1930.

The Rastafarian religion originated in Jamaica but it rests on Christian mainstream beliefs which of course began in the Middle East. Rastafarian dietary beliefs, for example, stem from Judaism and the Old Testament There are connections with the history of African kings and in particular with recent historical figures in Ethiopia.

I don't think that Rastafarianism is a religion. I think that a Rastafarian is a follower of a political and social ideology.
