The original once cent denomination was introduced in 1793 and was originally copper. The ubiquitous Lincoln penny was first minted in 1909 to commemorate what would have been his 100th birthday.

The 1 cent coin was introduced in 1909 with Abraham Lincoln's image, 100 years after President Lincoln's birth. From 1959 to 2008, the penny showed the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse side. Four new reverse designs were introduce in 2009, with a permanent one adopted in 2010.

according to the Us mint web site states that the first one cent coin was introduced in year eighteen forty nine. The first one cent coin was the indian head coin. the indian head 1 cent coin was then replaced with the president lincoln one cent coin in year 1909.

There are 3 different 1 cent coins. The American 1 cent coin was in 1909, Australian 1 cent coin was in 1966, Canadian 1 cent coin in 1911.
