The Intel Pentium processor was first introduced in March of 1993. This was the follow on to the 486 line and was available in 60 and 66 mhz versions.

In order to be more competitive, Intel developed Pentium CPU in the year of 1993. At that time, Intel introduced and used the new trademark -- "Pentium" to make a clear with older CPUs and also tried to be different from AMD CPUs' names.

Pentium pro was introduce in November 1995 and Pentium MMX was introduce in march 22 1993 these 2 processors are also called Pentium 1 processors

Pentium was introduced in 1993 by Intel, and the introduction of the processor brought on a whole new era of computing. Pentium should logically be called i586, but numbers cannot fall under trademark, so pentium it was. Pentium was in 2006 replaced by Intel's Core. Pentium's main asset was that it could do multiple calculations at once.
